Experience report of the “foreign language assistant”

On my first day at HHEK, I was welcomed by more teachers, staff, and students than those whose names I could remember. Eventually, I got to know many of them very well. Their initial friendly welcome never changed and their patience with the in-house American was immeasurable. Over the year, however, I found my rhythm at HHEK and discovered how willing everyone was to learn and teach with me. The most enjoyable about my experience was how much I learned while teaching. English at a vocational school encompasses subjects I would have never studied in my native language, plumbing, mechanics, informatics, design, and much more. I am happy to have furthered my interest in English and the USA at the school, and thankful it has furthered mine in German and Germany.
